Take your wedding edit into Premiere, Resolve or Final Cut

Wedit’s timeline export carries the selected clips and their timing into your editing software. You can continue with detailed trimming, color, sound and delivery using the original media.

Before you export

  • Review the current film and its selected shots in Wedit.
  • Connect the drive containing the original camera files and music.
  • Keep file names and folders unchanged between generating and opening the timeline.
  • Choose the export or Open in option for the editor you use.

Premiere Pro

Use the Premiere XML export. Import the XML into Premiere Pro to open the sequence. If Premiere asks you to locate media, point it to the original camera and audio files. The sequence is then available for trimming, grading and sound work.

DaVinci Resolve

Wedit includes an Open in workflow for Resolve, as well as timeline export. With Resolve installed and its connection available, you can build the sequence in Resolve and continue editing there. If the direct connection is unavailable, use the exported timeline and relink the originals as needed.

Final Cut Pro

Use the Final Cut Pro option to export FCPXML. Open or import the file in Final Cut Pro, then locate any original media it requests. Final Cut Pro is an Apple workflow; choose Premiere or Resolve if you are finishing on Windows.

A video export and a timeline are different

A rendered video is a single playable file. A timeline keeps clips separate, with their source ranges and placement, so you can change the edit. Choose the timeline when you intend to continue cutting; choose a video for watching or delivering the current film.

Check the handoff

Watch the imported sequence and compare it with your Wedit preview. Check the opening and ending, slow-motion shots, audio alignment and any transitions. Different editing applications can interpret timeline elements differently, so review the imported result before delivery.

When moving a project to another computer, copy the original media and music as well as the timeline file. An XML file describes the edit; it does not contain your camera footage.

Highlights and full wedding films

Use the same handoff approach for a wedding highlight or a full wedding movie. Keep the completed chapters in the wedding project when exporting a longer film.
