For a wedding studio, the useful number is the cost of getting the agreed films ready for delivery. A software purchase, a freelancer’s quote and an editing service can cover different amounts of work. Compare the deliverables and the finishing time you will still need.

Start with the films you need

• Highlights: a short film built from selected moments and music across the wedding day.
• Full wedding film: longer coverage brought together as chapters, including the parts of the day the couple wants to keep.
• Ceremony or speeches: continuous events, often with several camera angles and separate audio recordings to synchronize.
• Reels: separate social edits that need their own framing, timing and export.

Write down which of these are included before comparing prices. A quote for a highlight alone is a different scope from a highlight plus the ceremony, speeches and a vertical reel.

Include your time, not just the purchase

With software, allow time to organize the footage, choose the music, review the edit and finish the delivery. With an external editor, allow time to prepare a brief, transfer the media and review revisions. An existing editor subscription may also remain part of your workflow.

A simple studio calculation is: editing purchase or service fee, plus your review and finishing hours multiplied by your internal hourly cost. For example, a hypothetical $100 service with two hours of your work valued at $40 per hour costs $180 in total. Those example figures are an illustration, not a quote or an industry average.

What to ask when outsourcing a wedding edit

• Which films and approximate lengths does the quote cover?
• Are camera synchronization, color and audio finishing included?
• How many revision rounds are included, and what counts as a revision?
• Will you receive the editable project and a way to reconnect the media?
• When does the delivery period start: booking, upload or approval of the brief?
